Chris Ostrowski's 25 point pledge to clean up politics

Chris is not a career politician or a Westminster insider. He will fight hard for the people of Norwich North and is absolutely determined to clean up politics.

His 25 point plan and his pledge to the people of Norwich North is as follows:

1. I seek elected office for the honour of serving the people of Norwich North and our democracy.

2. I will subscribe to high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and prudence with public money.

3. I will show by my actions that politics need not be a dirty game, but can be a clean and positive activity, engaged in genuinely for the good of all.

4. I will tell the truth about what we stand for and have achieved, and about what others stand for and have achieved.

5. I will refrain from personal attacks.

6. I will not mislead the public about who is doing well and about who is likely to win in these elections.

7. I will make only honest and reasonable promises.

8. I will fight a clean, positive and honest campaign around the issues that matter to the people of Norwich North.

9. In particular, I will be honest about public spending, and not scaremonger in ways that may frighten the most vulnerable members of our society, such as children and elderly people.

10. I will always stand up for the people of Norwich North, and where I see a threat to the life chances of people here- whether from the policies of other political parties or of Government - I will speak out, whether the politicians like it or not.

11. I will take money only from organisations and individuals whose motives in giving me money I do not have reason to suspect.

12. I will publish online my full salary and parliamentary allowances.

13. I will publish online details of all of personal expenses incurred as a Member of Parliament within 30 days of submitting them.

14. I will publish online details of all office expenses incurred as a Member of Parliament within 30 days of submitting them.

15. I will open up my unedited expenses claims to local newspapers at the end of every financial year.

16. I will never claim for any goods that are not essential for my work as your Member of Parliament.

17. I will never claim for food.

18. I will never claim for furniture or household goods.

19. I will meet all tax liabilities – such as stamp duty – without claiming them from the taxpayer.

20. I will never take on a second outside job.

21. I believe it a duty to hold regular meetings, engagement events and surgeries with my community and constituents and will do so.

22. I will communicate regularly with my electorate and will be available through email, telephone and other means to my constituents.

23. I will publish online details of all donations of more than £1,000, in line with Electoral Commission rules.

24. I will use a local accountancy firm to audit my claims at the end of every financial year.

25. I will fully support the recommendations from Sir Christopher Kelly’s review into the Parliamentary expenses system.

These are tough standards, but I believe that the people of Norwich North deserve nothing less.

Faithfully,

Chris Ostrowski
